Dream Finders names former Lennar co-CEO Rick Beckwitt as board co-chair

Rick Beckwitt, the former co-CEO and co-president of Lennar Corp., has been appointed co-chairman of Dream Finders Homes’ board of directors, the company announced. Terms of the appointment and the effective date were not disclosed in the announcement.

Beckwitt is one of the homebuilding industry’s most prominent executives, with decades of experience scaling public builders through multiple housing cycles. Bringing in a former top executive from one of the nation’s largest homebuilders suggests Dream Finders is focused on institutionalizing its growth strategy, shoring up governance and investor confidence, and potentially evaluating broader geographic or product expansion. 

Dream Finders, a Jacksonville, Fla.-based homebuilder, has expanded rapidly in recent years on the back of strong demand for new construction as existing-home inventory remains tight.

The appointment comes as Dream Finders has made multiple recent public attempts to acquire Beazer Homes. Beckwitt’s experience leading mergers and acquisitions may have been a key factor in his selection for the role.

Beckwitt retired from Lennar in 2023 after serving as co-CEO and co-president and previously held leadership roles including CEO, president and executive vice president. Before joining Lennar in 2006, he was president of D.R. Horton, helping steer the company through significant expansion and acquisitions. Earlier, he worked in corporate finance and M&A at Lehman Brothers before founding EVP Capital, a venture capital and real estate advisory firm. He also serves on the boards of Eagle Materials, Ferguson Enterprises and Weyerhaeuser.

Dream Finders has expanded rapidly in recent years on the back of strong demand for new construction as existing-home inventory remains tight.

The company’s announcement did not detail any changes to existing board leadership or committee structures tied to Beckwitt’s appointment.
